At Bytown Timberworks we specialize in:
• Cottages • New Homes • Additions • Great Rooms • Porches • Timber Trusses • Stair Cases • Sheds, Bunkies, Gazebos and more As a small company, we stay away from the mansion-esque 4000 sq/ft timber frames. We simply don't have the resources to take on those projects and don't pretend to. However, if your timber frame ideas are somewhat more modest, we would be honoured to discuss your plans with you. We use sustainably harvested, FSC certified white pine timbers in our frames but other species are available as well including Douglas Fir, Oak and reclaimed barn timbers. We will sit down with you and work with plans or ideas you may already have, or simply start from scratch. Once a design is established, we produce a full set of shop drawings and start cutting your frame. Typically, a medium sized frame takes 4 to 8 weeks to cut in the Bytown shop. The completed frame is then loaded onto a trailer and trucked out to your site where the Bytown crew assembles and "raises" your frame, usually within a day with much fanfare and merriment. Our services typically include working with you on the design of your frame, supply of timber, joinery cutting, assembly and erection or raising of your timber frame. You are left with a standing timber frame that, in most cases, will require closing in by you or a contractor. By closing in we mean the installation of wall and roof sheathing. On occasion, we do close in on smaller projects but as a rule, we leave the walls and roofing to the pros. We believe that as timber framers, we should stick to the timber framing. However, as an additional service, we do offer the installation of tongue & groove roof planking over your timber frame using a wood species of your choice. Besides timber framed structures, we also produce timber staircases and custom furniture and can utilize twisted and "live edged" pieces in your project. Have a tree with sentimental value you would like included in your timber frame? No problem, our sawmill can saw timber from your trees and install them in your frame. We also have pre-designed timber frames that would make an ideal cottage or detached office. These frames range from 600 - 1500 sq/ft in floor area.
