25+ Years of experience Enlightend Body Work 1. Massage Therapy Some Conditions for which Massage Therapy is effective include: * Chronic physical or emotional pain * Headaches and hypertension * Inflammatory conditions e.g. arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis * Nerve pain and Bruising * Strains/sprains/muscle spasm * Menstrual or Pregnancy discomforts Massage Therapy is the skilled manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Its aim is to restore normal function, range of movement, and relieve pain. It can be emotionally and mentally restorative as well. Many Extended Health Care Plans cover Massage Therapy when you send in a receipt from a Registered Massage Therapist. 2. Cranio-Sacral Therapy The Cranio-Sacral System consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the head down to the sacrum. Delicate manual therapy performed on the cranial-sacral system enhances the body’s natural healing processes and has been shown to be effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with neurological dysfunction. It is a very gentle, non-intrusive manipulation of the connective tissue in the head and spinal column, and throughout the whole body. Problems are created in the connective tissue when there is prolonged emotional, physical, or mental stress. Also, accidents, blows, falls, and compressions etc., affect the connective tissue and, unless treated, can interfere with the normal function of organs, joints, muscles, brain, and major systems that travel through it, e.g. blood circulation, lymph drainage, and the nervous system. Traumatized connective tissue will delay or prevent completion of a healing process. Some dysfunctions that benefit from this therapy are • Headaches, including migraines • Head trauma/whiplash • Postural distortion (scoliosis) • Cerebral Palsy • Sensory dysfunction with sight, hearing, taste, smell • Tinnitus and Equilibrium disorders • Psycho/Emotional problems • Higher brain function repression: memory, reasoning, organization • TMJ problems The process of unwinding connective tissue is a relaxing experience done while clothed or combined with a massage. 3. Ortho-Bionomy The term Ortho-Bionomy comes from the Greek root, ortho, meaning “straight” or “genuine”, and bionomy, “the science that deals with the natural laws of life”. Ortho-Bionomy loosely translates as “the correct application of the natural laws of life” In Ortho-Bionomy, the body’s capacity to self-correct is fundamental. The basis of the technique consists in discovering the preferred posture, not the idealized posture, but that which is most comfortable for the body. Once found, the practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy affirms this position by lightly compressing into the joint. In this way a biofeedback mechanism is stimulated, informing the central nervous system of the held muscles and tension pattern. As the body recognizes the pattern through the exaggeration, a reflexive release can occur. In place of going against resistances, they are respected, and utilized in a feedback role, to support the body to move away from pain and in the direction of ease of movement. By this reflexive biofeedback mechanism, the body discovers new options for structural alignment. This procedure makes it possible for a person who has suffered with chronic pain over a prolonged period of time to get relief in a matter of seconds. Esoteric Healing The human being is a Divine Being, with not simply a physical body, but also mental, spiritual and emotional bodies. There is also a physical etheric double. That is, the body is a physical manifestation of an energetic pattern. This energetic pattern is known as the etheric body. All these ‘bodies’ interpenetrate and surround the physical form. Disease is caused by blockages and imbalances in the flow of Divine energy through a person’s soul to the mental, emotional and physical bodies. Disease is therefore only an effect. Healing is a co-operative venture of finding the cause of imbalance and restoring energy flow. All problems have an exoteric (evident) and esoteric (hidden) aspect to them. If we are more than our parts, and more than our problems, then it makes a lot of sense to go to that which is more and ask for help. Esoteric Healing works from that higher level within us and opens the door for true healing to happen. Therapeutic massage uses a variety of techniques including myofascial release, joint mobilizations, and trigger point therapy in order to correct muscle and connective tissue imbalances that can cause pain. Clients who are experiencing pain, including headaches, should definitely book a therapeutic treatment. Your therapist will take time to assess your physical presentation, provide a thorough treatment and give you tools such as stretching and strengthening exercises to ensure you receive the maximum pain-relieving benefit from massage. Therapeutic massage is an effective way to treat mechanical pain and prevent it from returning. Relaxation Massage Sometimes our daily activities can affect our outlook and increase stress responses in the body. These responses make us feel anxious, depressed and tired. Feeling unwell, we are less attentive to how we hold our bodies. Tension and discomfort becomes a part of everyday life. Relaxation Massage is a medium to light pressure massage that will calm the body and redirect the mind. Regular massage is proven to decrease stress and promote a sense of well-being. Sports Massage Work hard? Play hard? Whether you are in an occupation that requires manual exertion or are active in sports, it is likely that you have acquired overuse or acute injury along the way. We are well acquainted with and able to effectively treat repetitive strains, sprains, friction syndromes (to name a few), and help with rehabilitation. Your therapist will use a combination of hands-on therapeutic and deep tissue massage, assisted or passive stretching and provide strengthening exercises and stretches, if needed. Massage therapy will speed recovery time and get you back in the game sooner. Regular massage helps keep you active and increases your body awareness. Deep Tissue Massage Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Adhesions which form due to chronic tension or injury can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, your therapist will use direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. Clients often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage. Pregnancy Massage Massage is definitely one of life's pleasures that you can enjoy throughout your pregnancy. When your body is changing dimensions, there are new demands on your neck, back, and legs that can be tiring and painful. Everyday tasks may present different challenges, too. Using a blend of therapeutic and relaxation techniques, we will target areas of imbalance while soothing your nerves. Registered Massage Therapists are trained to position your body comfortably and to use safe techniques. Massage therapy boosts your energy by removing the obstacles of discomfort and tension, and will give you and baby some much-deserved "us" time.e.
