Iwona Basalaj, RMT
Iwona graduated from Kikkawa College and became a member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario in 1999. In the 13 years of her career as a regulated health care practitioner, Iwona has been dedicated to providing her clients with treatments geared towards the enhancement of their health, well-being, and self-awareness. The first course she has ever taken to enhance her manual skills was Craniosacral Therapy course with the Upledger Institute. Iwona has been using the techniques she has learned to treat fibromyalgia, migraines, Bell’s palsy, and multiple sclerosis. A year later, in 2000, Iwona took a course in advanced Trigger Point Therapy to master her understanding of referred pain and its sources. The knowledge she acquired proved invaluable when treating clients suffering from chronic lower back pain and ‘sciatic-like’ symptoms. Her journey to be more knowledgeable did not stop there. After a short break she has taken between 2002 and 2004 to start a family, Iwona took a Cupping Massage course she has had a personal interest in. Cupping used to be a way of getting back to health in her family. Her father often did cupping for Iwona, when she was suffering from chronic bronchitis. Iwona soon realized how effective treating with cups really was. Clients exhibiting myofascial restrictions, lymphedema and poor circulation greatly benefit from cupping massage. One of Iwona’s biggest accomplishments is graduating in the fall of 2006 from Contemporary Medical Acupuncture course taught at McMaster University. Acupuncture proved to be a safe and effective treatment for acute injuries. Her second biggest accomplishment was to obtain an Honours Diploma in Paramedicine from Humber College in 2010. Iwona continues to expand her knowledge and is looking forward to learning new modalities including Neuromuscular Integration and Structural Alignment. As a Peer Assessor for the College of Massage Therapist of Ontario, Iwona is working with her colleagues to uphold the highest standards of care among massage therapists.
