Building homes. Building hope. Restores are building supply stores run by Habitat for Humanity affiliates that accept and resell donations of quality new and used building materials and home decor. Shopping at a ReStore is a socially conscious decision, as funds generated are used to finance habitat homebuilding projects.
As well, shopping at a ReStore is also an environmentally conscious decision, as much of what is sold at Restores is product that is new, gently used or customer returns that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The ReStore is the major fundraising activity for Habitat for Humanity PEH. They invite volunteers to work together in partnership with families in need, providing "a hand up - not a hand out". The Prince Edward-Hastings Habitat for Humanity affiliate has built 11 houses in our community. Homeowners contribute hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" to the construction of their own homes and then repay a long-term, no-interest mortgage.
