When I was a kid, every summer my family would drive 12 hours to visit my grandparents at their acreage in Fraser Lake, BC. Grandma and Grandpa had used the trees off their land to build a log home and driving up there was an exciting time for us kids. When we arrived the girls would pick wild berries for fresh baked pies and homemade jam while the guys went fishing.
On the way to the lake we would see all kinds of wildlife and one summer I hooked and landed a 4lb rainbow trout. For a seven year old boy this was a dream come true, considering the whole family was fishing that day, including Grandma and Grandpa and I caught the biggest one. The whole trip was an unbelievable experience and holds memories I will carry for a lifetime. Memories like this have fuelled my passion for the great outdoors, like fishing and camping and sharing these experiences with family and friends. I feel it is not only mine but everyone’s responsibility to fight for preservation of fish and all aspects of nature. This is the only way future generations will be able to enjoy what we have today.
